East Sikkim is home to the capital city of Gangtok, practically your starting point for any tour of the state.

While it’s pretty much impossible to tour the entire state at once, you’ll need to break your trip into three to four parts.

Let’s take a look at five of the must-see attractions in East Sikkim.

The Bakthang Waterfall lies against the backdrop of the Eastern Himalayas and despite its stunning beauty, it is one of the least explored places to visit here.

The waterfall springs from the Ratey Chu River and can be heard from afar.

This is a must for nature lovers, a place to just sit and relax and take in nature.

Located at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, from East Sikkim to parts of Tibet, Jelep La is a high mountain pass.

The term “Jelep” means “beautiful flat pass”, a reference to the flat terrain.

You can get a mesmerizing view of Lake Menmecho from this pass that connects India to Lhasa in Tibet.

However, it is a tough ride with several hairpin bends.

One of India’s oldest mountain passes, the Nathula Pass was once part of the ancient trade route linking India and Tibet, popularly known as the Silk Road.

Tourists need a permit to visit Nathula Pass.

On the way you will find the highest ATM in the world in Thegu. If your driver allows it, stop by and click some photos for the ‘Gram.

Lake Tsomgo is a must-see when in East Sikkim.

Very close to Gangtok is the spectacular lake at an elevation of 12,400 feet.

This place, called Changu Lake by the locals, looks like an artist’s palette with blooming flowers in spring and summer, while it is covered in snow in winter.

Both seasons are equally appreciated by the lake’s tourists.

With an abundance of natural beauty, Zuluk, a village near the lower Himalayas, is ideal for people who love peace and quiet on their vacation.

If you want to take a break from your noisy lifestyle then Zuluk is the place for you.

It offers scenic views and adventures everywhere for those who love trekking.

Zuluk also offers a magnificent view of the Kanchenjunga.
