JAIPUR, Aug 17 – Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation (RSIC) is planning to build an air cargo complex at Dabok Airport in Udaipur to facilitate the import and export of goods in the coming months.
At present, businessmen based in the sea city of Udaipur and nearby places need to travel to Ahmedabad or Jaipur for import and export purpose.
RSIC, a Rajasthan government company, had submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Civil Aviation which was approved in principle and the country for the project was also identified.
RSIC Chairman Rajiv Arora said work on the complex would begin soon and it was expected to be operational early next year.
Udaipur is a center of handicrafts.
In addition to handicrafts, building blocks and mineral products are also exported from the region.
The city is also becoming a top wedding destination in the state and many items such as fruit, vegetables, flowers and other items not available locally are being imported.
As there are no facilities for the air cargo complex in Udaipur, the businessmen have to go to the nearest airport in Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
In Rajasthan, the facility of air cargo complex is only available at Jaipur Airport.
“With the air cargo complex in Udaipur, the local business people don’t have to go to Ahmedabad or Jaipur to get the facility. This will save time and resources for business people and help local businesses,” Arora told PTI.
He said the complex will be built on an area of nearly 2,000 square meters for which the land at Dabok Airport has been identified and will take nearly six months to complete once all the formalities are settled.
“I recently visited Udaipur and held a meeting with Airport Authority of India officials at Dabok Airport regarding the project. The work is being done quickly so that it can be completed within the time frame,” he added.
RSIC plays an important role in promoting the handicrafts produced in the state.
The Company operates Inland Container Depots (ICDs) at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Air Cargo Complex at Sanganer, Jaipur. (PTI)
