Monkeypox in India: Gujarat became the latest state to report a suspected case of monkeypox after a 29-year-old man with similar symptoms was admitted to a hospital in Jamnagar. The patient, a resident of rural Jamnagar with no travel history, presented monkeypox symptoms such as high fever, skin rashes and others. The blood samples from the suspected monkeypox patient have been sent to Ahmedabad BJ Medical College’s laboratory for testing, said Manoj Aggarwal, additional chief secretary at the health ministry. Suspected Monkeypox Case in Gujarat – Top Developments
- The patient, a resident of Nava Nagna village in Jamnagar district, is currently being admitted to a special ward at the city’s GG hospital, said Dr. Nandini Desai, Dean of MP Shah Government Medical College, which is affiliated with the hospital, told PTI.
- The man has no recent travel history. “Since he was showing monkeypox symptoms such as high fever, we sent his samples to a laboratory in Ahmedabad for confirmation. The patient was admitted to an isolation ward at the hospital,” Desai said.
- The patient was admitted on Thursday afternoon with a rash and swollen lymph nodes on his body, Dr. Dipak Tiwari, Superintendent of GG Hospital, quoted by IANS news agency.
- Since the case is from the rural area, the county health department will conduct the tracing and tracing of the patient’s travel history and people he came into contact with.
