AFTER THE European Union (EU) recognized the Philippines’ Covid-19 vaccination certificates, Filipinos traveling to Europe can now do so with ease.
This developed after the Philippines were hooked up to the EU Digital Covid Certificate #EUDCC scheme.
With this, the EU now recognizes the Philippines’ Covid-19 vaccination certificates and, at the same time, the Philippines accepts the recognition of EUDCC certificates “according to their own legal system”.
Following discussions between the European Union and the Philippines, the European Commission has adopted an Implementing Decision recognizing the Philippine VaxCertPH as technically equivalent to the EU Digital Covid Certificate (EUDCC).
From July 29, 2022, Filipinos traveling to EU member states can use their vaccination certificates under the same conditions as #EUDCC holders.
At the same time, travelers carrying the #EUDCC can now use it to confirm their vaccination status upon entering the Philippines.
“The European Union sees this as an important milestone in order to ensure fast and safe travel and the mobility of people,” said the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union, Dr. Ana Isabel Sanchez Ruiz.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the Ministry of Health and the Quarantine Bureau for their work during the process, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism for their support,” Ruiz said.
The Philippines is the sixth country in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to be recognized under the EU Digital Covid Certificate #EUDCC scheme. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam have been included in #EUDCC.
Globally, the EU has so far made equivalence decisions with 45 third countries and territories across five continents, bringing the total number of countries and territories linked to the EU Covid Digital Certificate Scheme to 75. The latest decisions were adopted on July 29, including Oman, Peru and the Philippines.
Filipino travelers who have not been vaccinated with an EU-approved vaccine still need to check which ones are accepted by each member state before travelling.
