BOSTON, January 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — 2022 could be the year of travel Yes, really come back. Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT)the leading provider of personalized small group and individual travelers for Americans over 50 has announced its top 4 travel themes for the coming year.

“Our travelers are very optimistic about 2022,” said Brian FitzGerald, OAT’s chief marketing officer. “From seasoned travelers to first-time solo travelers, people are planning to see the world again, especially the places they have vowed to see in their lifetime.”

OAT resumed entry July 2021 and brought 11,000 travelers to more than 30 countries. In 2022, nearly 69,000 travelers booked trips with OAT, which typically offers trips to 85 countries.

OAT Top 4 Travel Themes for 2022:

  1. Solo Push – You have never dreamed of traveling alone? 2022 could be your year to test the waters. Many people who put their dreams on hold because a friend or spouse was unable to attend are no longer waiting. They leave their comfort zone and book solo. Blame the pandemic and be locked down for too long.

OAT has seen a 17% increase in the number of solo travelers since 2019. The company just added 2,000 more single rooms in 2022 — 92% of them with free single supplements.

Solo travelers — most of whom are women with OAT — often find small-group travel attractive because they can easily meet and spend time with others whenever they choose.

  2. small ships – Sailing with fewer people is attractive to travelers in 2022. At OAT, bookings for small vessels are up 10% in 2022 compared to 2019. More than 14,000 travelers are expected to travel with OAT by 2022.

Travelers are attracted to small ships for the opportunity to visit more remote and smaller ports with smaller ships. There is also the opportunity to mingle with locals in small groups in a less touristy way. That doesn’t happen when hundreds of passengers disembark from a large ship.
  3. Travel sustainably – “How can we travel more responsibly?” It’s a multi-faceted question that’s gaining traction among travelers of all ages Glasgow Declaration on Climate Protection in Tourismthat inspires the travel industry to track and improve the impact of travel on the environment.

For some travelers, sustainable travel means protecting the environment. For others, it looks for destinations where their travel expenses will have a positive impact on the local community – for the benefit of their economic development, for example.

Travelers are very interested in OAT’s Arctic Expedition: Untamed Norway & Spitsbergen and Ultimate Galápagos Exploration & of Ecuador Amazon wildernessfor example.

  4. Longer rides – Some travelers want to make the most of the airfare. Others feel the urge to make up for lost time due to the pandemic. You really want to be immersed in a different culture and have more opportunities to connect with the locals. The result? Longer trips planned for 2022.

At OAT, 55% of solo travelers reserved for future trips have chosen to arrive earlier before a trip or to stay longer after the tour is complete. Extending a trip with an early arrival can help a traveler acclimatize before a tour begins. Staying later, after the group has departed, gives travelers time to explore independently and enjoy the experience a little longer.

More than 87,000 travelers – almost half of them solo travelers – currently have reservations with OAT on 85 itineraries. With many adventures already open in 2023, nearly 9,000 departures are looking forward to traveling then.

OAT offers travelers 50+ impactful, cross-cultural experiences that help transform people’s lives. OAT encourages an intimate and approachable experience, with groups limited to 16 travelers (average 13) by land and 25 (average 22) by sea.
