Tokyo reported an unprecedented 40,406 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, eclipsing last week’s previous single-day record as newly contagious omicron Sub-variants arise.

Japan‘s capital registered 7 deaths and 27 cases with severe symptoms, according to a local government statement. The occupancy rate of the hospital beds is 50.3, it said. The country added a total of 209,600 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections to over 11.9 million.
